A sunny weekend in West Sussex

A month or so ago I spent a few days at my best friend Annie's house in West Sussex. With the summer well and truly over in England, and Annie about to head off to New Zealand for the polo season I am feeling somewhat nostalgic about all the things I am going to miss.

I stayed in the pictueresque village of Petworth where our weekend consisted of sunbathing, polo games, parties, tapas and exploring the charming countryside during the hottest weekend of the year! Despite Annie sporting a sling due to a broken collar bone, it felt like the most perfect countryside break away from the hustle and bustle of London. I believe this is also Annies debut on here, so Annie meet blog, blog meet Annie.

We went to the Petworth Village fete held at Petworth park in front of The National Trust's Petworth house. As musicians played long gone classics from the good ol' days, and dogs pranced through hoops competing for a rosette, Annie and I occupied the Pimms bar and relaxed in the glorious sunshine. Petworth Park could be the poster campaign for the great British countryside and it was quite lovely watching ducks and swans pass on by as we sat eating dinner overlooking the vast lake. Oh, it did feel very Downton!
One evening Annies family kindly treated me to Tapas in the town of Midhurst. Faustinos Wine and Tapas bar was delicious and they have a fantastic range of tapas dishes that left me spoilt for choice. I had Calamari, goats cheese and chorizo dishes! Fabulous!
After spending a night partying with some of the local polo players, we relaxed by supporting them the next day in a match at the esteemed Cowdray Polo club. Just look how elegant all the Black Bear's horses look after the game!
Whilst exploring the area and admiring all the chic, elegant boutiques that lined the village paths in Petworth we stumbled upon the 'Coco Cafe Sugar Lounge'. Its an adorable chocolate shop and cafe that lets you enjoy a chocolate smoothie and select Rococo chocolates, or vintage sweets at the same time. Inside the shop you are immersed into a  pink world of sweet indulgence, so sweet it becomes almost impossible not to buy anything. I settled for a chocolate milkshake and some truffles whilst Annie, who has a little more self control than I, opted for a selection of sweets and lollipops. When it comes to me and chocolate, the chocolate wins, every time.
Every day of my stay at Annies, we ate freshly baked croissants from the bakery in the morning sun and grazed on strawberries picked from her garden. It was a few days of relaxation, friendship and an appreciation for the easy life, it can't get more perfect then that.
Unfourtnetly I'll have to wait a while for the sun to finally show again, but at least Annie will be back home in a few months for more countryside merriment :)
