Afternoon tea at Laduree, Covent Garden

After a night partying in Mayfair with my dear friend Charlotte (fashion photographer, rainbowed hair pixie and general good egg) there was only one way to cure our hangovers - lunch at Laduree. Upon arriving at the covent garden patisserie we were greeted with a visual feast of prettiness; marble counters adorned in macaroons of candyfloss shades and petite boxes filled with sugared almonds. As we climbed the stairs to the restaurant I couldn't help feel as though I had entered a Parisian dolls house; blushing pink and mint green plates and tea cups lined tables and chandeliers twinkled above our heads.

Feeling less peckish than we previously thought, we decided to share an afternoon tea. We each chose a sandwich, the ispahan and a mini viennoiserie - just the right amount! We then enjoyed a pot of earl grey, and I ordered a separate hot chocolate - which is the most velvety, delectable hot chocolate I have ever come across.

The carefully wrapped sandwiches (smoked salmon and beaufort cheese) were modest but flavoursome and the sugar brioche was divine. Whilst the savoury treats were delicious, we both pursued the vibrant pink ispahan that stood out like a glistening jewel against the silver tea stand. Dreamy rose petal cream and succulent raspberries enveloped between two rose macaroons adorned in red rose petals and lychees - it really was a heavenly as it sounds!

Whilst the food was sumptuously indulgent the service lacked a lot to be desired which lessened the elegance somewhat. I much preferred Laduree in Harrods so if you are searching for the Versailles experience in London, I'd skip Covent Garden and head straight to Knightsbridge!

  1. The macaroons look scrumptious, it's a shame about the service! I definitely need to go for afternoon tea sometime.
